Counter Balance

We created this occasional table first and foremost to be a well-crafted functional table with a distinctly sculptural sense of interplay between the rectilinear vertical support elements and the juxtaposition curvilinear horizontal elements.

Secondarily; we wanted to honor the great Russian Abstract painter Wassily Kandinsky for the gift of his genius by selecting one of his painting, in this case “Counter Weight” to adapt into a combination of two and three dimensional elements using Abalone, Richlite, Sterling Silver, and naturally colored woods for inlays and veneer and Silver and Gold leaf for various elements.

This combination of circular and rectilinear elements in both their two and three dimensional forms create a degree of tension while at the same time balance between the positive and negative space within the composition.

The choice of material including the coatings and adhesives and our use of photovoltaic cell panels allow this piece to fall within Leed Platinum Certification Guidelines as well as Green Practices, and Best Practices.
