Coffee Table

“Abstract Illusionism™ in Furniture Space”

We designed this coffee table to fills the angled space created with a sectional sofa group while being representative of the Abstract Illusionists Movement of the 1970s with its floating L shaped inlaid wood elements as if floating in the darkness of space while functioning as a finely crafted piece of furniture. My inspiration for the decoration of this piece was the obelisk floating in space in the great SIFI movie "2001 A Space Odyssey".

The wood used in the construction of the piece is all “old stock” which includes Brazilian Cherry, Red Burl Mallee, Mahogany, Brown Mallee, Kingwood, American Black Walnut, Teak, American Cherry, Zebrawood, English walnut, Tulipwood, and Bubinga. The joinery includes all handcut wedged mortise and tenon joints for the legs and top and hand-cut mortise and tenon joints for the stretcher system.

Construction:

Laminated black diamond Richlite and Hard Maple legs with through tenons on the top with wedged Richlite. The skirt is laminated hard maple and Richlite mortised into the legs.

Materials:

Black diamond by Richlite. Made from 100% FSA Certified recycled paper, "old stock" domestic and exotic hardwoods. The table is finished with 8 coats of a durable catalyzed urethane in a satin sheen.

Size:

H 21 in. x W 42 in. x D 42 in.
